Personal Experience with the Buteyko Method:
In December 1992, two of her children with medically diagnosed and treated asthma began Buteyko breathing therapy. Improvement in their asthma began immediately on commencing the breathing exercises, enabling reduction and eventual elimination of both reliever and preventative steroid medication. General health improvements were noted and maintained. Inspired by these profound results for her children, Tess trained as a Buteyko Practitioner in 1993, with Alexander Stalmatski, a colleague of Professor Konstantin Buteyko.

Tess is committed to improving community health and furthering research into the Buteyko Method. As a founding member of the Buteyko Institute of Breathing and Health Inc., Tess aims to promote professional research, development and training in the Buteyko Method of Breathing Reconditioning and to spread knowledge and use of the Buteyko Method worldwide.

The Training at Buteyko Workshops:
Buteyko Health Solution - Asthma Therapy Centre Canberra, and Sleep Apnea Therapy Centre. The practical training occurs in our clinic in a medical centre in Deakin, Canberra, Australian Capital Territory. An average of 60 clients a month attend the clinic for Buteyko programs. These include new clients commencing the program and those undergoing follow-up. The majority of the clients have asthma, or sleep disordered breathing. Other conditions they have are sinusitis, allergies, hayfever, chronic bronchitis, emphysema or poor sports. Clients attend on average 8 times, once a day for five consecutive days, then three- five further sessions over a period of 3-6 months. Most undergo the training in a class situation. Separate classes are held for adults and children. Early morning, mid morning and afternoon sessions are available. Children under the age of four and certain adults are instructed on an individual basis when this is most appropriate. The majority of clients are initially assessed through individual consultation.  An advanced sports program for sports performance enhancement is available which includes individual instruction at the track/field/pool. Referrals to the clinic come from specialist physicians, general practitioners, orthodontists, dentists, psychologists, sports coaches, allied and complementary health professionals, personnel officers, corporate management and past clients.

Training in the business practices, philosophy and operation procedures, of our clinic are an integral part of practitioner training.
